This is a heartfelt update about Julie Rivera – a devoted mother to two
wonderful boys, and a beloved wife.
Julie was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer at the young age of 32. Over
the last 6 years, she faced this illness with courage, grace, and a spirit that has
inspired many. Through more than 10 rounds of treatments ranging from
chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, and clinical trials, Julie has shown
remarkable strength. She has undergone several complex surgeries, as well.
Before her diagnosis, and even throughout much of her treatment, Julie was a
vibrant and active member of her community. She poured her heart into
everything she did, whether it was at Franklin Elementary School in South
Plainfield employed as a Pre-K teacher, helping at Sower Christian Church,
supporting her children’s PTA at Connecticut Farms School, or leading and
organizing initiatives with Cub Scout Pack 68. Julie didn’t just show up – she
led and volunteered her time, talents and treasure generously.
Despite every effort and the love and support from her medical team, family,
and friends, Julie’s cancer continues to progress. After much thought and
discussion with her care team and loved ones, Julie is now transitioning into
hospice care. This next chapter is focused on comfort, peace, and time with
those closest to her. Julie’s journey has touched so many lives, and we know how deeply she is
loved by her community. As she moves into this stage of care, we ask for
your continued thoughts, prayers, and messages of support. Julie has always
drawn strength from the love that surrounds her.
Thank you for walking alongside her during this difficult journey.
